I'm still amused by the echo of the morning birds at Tegallalang; real change from hustle of Bali's town centers. Having exclusive access walking along the rice fields made everyone feel welcomed, and wandering along the path with our little ones was so easy — not a souvenir seller in sight. The subdued tranquility of Sebatu Temple really captivated the kids, especially when they watched the koi pool reflect the tropical leaves above. Putu spotted an excellent local spot for lunch off the main drag, somewhere I'd never find as a tourist, and the afternoon at a jungle waterfall just let us breathe and let go. Friendly pace and zero shopping spots—the real luxury for parents is not dealing with detours for batik shops!

Dinner with my friend after days of working online felt fresh when we sidestepped the crowds and walked the terraces at Tegallalang almost alone—it is even greener than I remembered. Tranquility really settled in at the Gunung Kawi Sebatu Temple, which quite surprised us by how calm it was; glad Komang was patient with our slow wander from statue to koi pond! Lunch hit the sweet spot as a tucked-away warung Komang recommended, discreetly set amongst palm trees. Wrapped it up by chasing mist onto trails to a jungle waterfall escape. Loved that Komang never diverted us to shops: just Bali at its core.

Bagan's ancient temples have nothing on the sheer tranquility of Gunung Kawi Sebatu. With a bunch of lifelong friends, IG clichés standards were truly elevated lounging above Tegallalang’s glittering terraces — absolutely no gawping crowds in sight. Our little corner by the hidden waterfall felt untouched (and supremely undisturbed by shopping detours!) and the lunch spot genuinely tasted like a locals' best kept secret. Might have snuck in a swim. Bali’s green magic at its most mellow.

Wandering around the Gunung Kawi Sebatu Temple later felt surprisingly peaceful, like it belonged just to our small group of friends. Lunch brought simple but flavorful Bali comfort food at a spot that clearly the locals liked more than tourists. The secluded jungle waterfall was a faint soundtrack in the background as I sat watching everything. Plus, no detours for shop visits anywhere along the way (which was honestly refreshing and took a lot of stress away).

Met with a quiet calm at Gunung Kawi Sebatu Temple—no crowds, just serene corners perfect for startling koi and soaking in a bit of Bali's spirit without fuss. Grabbing lunch where the locals eat was a win: crunchy chicken plus sticky rice messes, giggles all round. Wrapping up under a waterfall— just our little gang with no-one else—fit the adventure, full stop. I'd add, appreciated the absence of shopping detours too.
