Having rafted on Costa Rica's rivers, it's tricky to be impressed elsewhere, but the Bali outing left us grinning hours after we dried off. The scenery unfolding alongside us—lush and alive, far from the city—it was an easy pace, joyfully punctuated by a few kicks of adrenaline. The nearby Sangeh Monkey Forest proved blissfully peaceful; surprisingly quiet, huge trees shading quiet trails, guiltlessly free from those dreaded souvenir detours. Our driver Gede, who radiated calm charm, handled the local roads so relaxed we almost dozed off. Ideal kind of slow adventure for us—bucket list day, quietly just what we were hoping for.

The rafting afterward was where everything clicked though, wild in places, mellow in others, and just killer volcano scenery all around. Plus, none of those forced shopping detours you get on a lot of tours, which helped me keep my backpacker budget on track. Our driver Gede just made everything feel really easy, which I totally appreciated traveling solo. Would do again!

Didn't expect my arms to be so sore from laughs instead of paddling! Navigating Bali's lush river was a world away from the rushed tours I'd been on before—just starry-eyed landscapes and a proper soak without any compromise on tranquil silence. Sangeh Monkey Forest offered shaded walks for cooling down and gentle chatters with mischievous monkeys, which beat plastic souvenirs any day. Bonus points: not a single shopping detour to slow us down.

The river wound through stunning landscapes, sometimes so gorgeous everyone fell quiet. Even on my second visit to Bali, wandering the shaded paths among curiously friendly Sangeh monkeys was a new highlight. Nice bonus: no interruptions for shopping stops, leaving more room to actually unwind and enjoy each site. Would recommend, especially if after something without the usual schedule hustle.

Honestly, drifting beneath bamboo groves while paddling downstream was so calming after previous, louder tour experiences. Through Sangeh Monkey Forest, quiet shaded trails and cheeky wildlife won us over; peaceful is an understatement. Minor bonus, there were absolutely no shopping stops (such a relief). Catching up between stretches was easy thanks to Bagus, who always seemed to know cute road-side fruit stalls if anyone wanted a quick pick-me-up. Can't wait to make this itinerary a Bali mainstay when friends visit other times.
