Almost called it when the kids wanted a break by 10am, but then Tegallalang's terraces opened up just for us and everybody perked right up (even my coffee-fueled patience). Never in my wildest did I think they'd run along the paddies with invited space! Gunung Kawi Sebatu temp washed us in serenity—even my puzzle of a toddler froze in awe at the peaceful ponds. Lunch spot was actual local gold, nothing fancy, just ridiculously fresh satay by jungle giants. Not a shopping parking lot in sight (bliss), and Bagus steered altogether calmly when he spotted weeee energy spikes on dad duty.

Didn't expect the rice terraces to feel so peaceful—a far cry from Instagram crowds. Bagus, our driver, made the early arrival easy. There was a sense of quiet beauty walking among Tegallalang's lush rows reflects on life back home spun through my head. Growing up in the city, the fresh mountain breeze was unforgettable. No pit stops for souvenirs—just genuine Bali, a calm waterfall walk, and prayer roofs peeking from Sebatu Temple.

The quick lunch at a nearby spot felt undiscovered, tasty, not expensive. Appreciate that driver Komang didn’t do any forced shopping breaks either, which kept the vibe chill. Probably the most honest yet simple trip I’ve had in Bali.

Loved having a private wander without crowds all over our photos. Lunch was a pleasantly informal affair at a warung Ketut said was his favorite. Just wonderfully easy graftswap of impressive views and a completely stellar lack of forced shopping detours. Makes a brilliant switch-up for anyone done with rigid group busses.
